A Ramble in Scotland

May 2nd - 11th, 2010
$2495.00

The West Highland Way is Scotland’s most famous walk. You’ll stroll alongside lovely Loch Lomond, cross lowland hills and walk in the Central Highlands. You’ll see an amazing variety of landscapes and feel a bit of Scotland’s history as we follow ancient roads. We’ll never be far from civilization, yet you’ll know a sense of isolation from the pace of the 21st century as we stroll from town to town. We’ll hike 65 miles in seven consecutive days. The food is excellent- lots of seafood-the pub beer is good too!

We start out each morning after a full Scottish breakfast at our inn and walk for approximately three hours on the way to a picnic lunch. We finish mid afternoon, leaving time to rest and explore before dinner. You carry a daypack with your lunch and a camera -- a carrier service brings the rest.

May 2 - Meet in Glasgow at the Buchanan Bus Station and transfer to Balmaha where we stay in a small inn.

May 3 - The first day’s hike covers eight miles with 800' elevation gain. We’ll walk from Balmaha to Rowardennan along the edge of Loch Lomond.

May 4 - Again we follow the Loch on a lovely woodland trail, seven miles from Rowardennan to Inversnaid.

May 5 - We hike seven miles with 500’ elevation gain from Inversnaid to Inverarnan.

May 6 - A challenging and spectacular walk to Tyndrum along the east bank of the River Falloch.

May 7 - Tyndrum to the Bridge of Orchy, nine miles with 500’ elevation gain on a gentle walk.

May 8 - The walk to Kingshouse is long and rugged across Rannoch Moor, a remote piece of wild Scotland.

May 9 - On the last day we hike up the Devil’s Staircase, a walk with amazing mountain vistas.

May 10 - Shuttle back to Glasgow.

May 11 - Depart anytime from Glasgow.
